History of Chinese Blackjack - How the Game Appeared

Speaking about blackjack history and the history of all its variations, nobody should forget about the equipment which helps to admire this card game actually; yes, the main word of blackjack history is “CARDS”: without a card deck it would hardly be possible to play blackjack today, would not it?

If you are a fan of gambling, you should definitely know whom to thank for such a wonderful invention as a deck of playing cards. Yes, do not be surprised by the fact the Chinese were believed to be the nation which invented playing cards, and this exciting event took place somewhere around the 9th century AD. Well, if they invented cards, it would be logical to assume that the Chinese were also the first ones who began playing these cards and, as a result, gave a birth to card games.

So, though Chinese Blackjack is “a younger brother” of its predecessor, the conventional blackjack, the conventional blackjack itself should thank to the Chinese for its existence. Such a paradox is, nothing to say more.

When the card game of blackjack began to travel around the world and become more and more popular at different countries (the end of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries), the Chinese could not stay indifferent about this game and had created their own blackjack variant. Thanks to their ideas, we have one more wonderful blackjack variation which is played and loved by many people.

According to Chinese tradition, most gamblers there play different card games during the Chinese New Year as they believe it guarantees a good luck at the coming year. So, as Chinese Blackjack is one of the most popular card games the Chinese play during a year, we can suppose that this belief really works for them.

Is Chinese Blackjack not alone?

Interesting, but Chinese Blackjack also has its variation which is called to be Kampung Blackjack, and it is played in Malaysia (‘kampong’ means ‘village’). Kampung Blackjack also has some specific rules which differ from the ones of Chinese Blackjack (for example, all hands during Kampung Blackjack game are closed though all of them are opened at Chinese Blackjack) but these two games are practically the same in general.
